How many days a week will I be in?

You will be in the academy at least FOUR days per week, with 1 full day off. However, on this day off you will be expected to work on assessments plus get work/volunteering experience. So like the public services, you will essentially have a full working week. This is great preparation for work and will get you used to what will be the minimum expectations required for full time employment?

What if I’m not sure if I want to join a Public Service yet?

Having some interest in joining the public services will certainly be an advantage as regardless of your future aspirations, you will be required to take part in all activities, visit, residentials, and complete all coursework which will be all related to the Public Services. Many students join the Public Services course with a plan and due to the varied nature of the course, it is natural that this plan may change. The uniqueness of this programme is that we will prepare you to join the Public Services but also prepare you for university also.

What are the costs of doing the course?

The course is free for all 16-18 year old through the education funding agency, so don’t worry about that. The course will have costs attached for uniform, equipment, trips and visits but these will be explained to you during your induction as costs will vary.
